Talibaan and Al-Qaeda: Real Enemies of Islam

"You know? They have implemented Islamic laws there. Now the real Islam is in Afghanistan only. When you go to Pak-Afghan border and try to cross it, they first check if you have enough long beard or not. If you don’t; they won’t let you enter. Isn’t it great and so Islamic?" An 18 years old college boy was chirping among his classmates in a shiny morning of 1998 in Pakistan.

"Yea I know that already. One of my uncles has been there lately. He was telling me about these great Muslims, Talibaan." Another boy uttered nothing but merely a sentence of eternal agreement, "Have you seen their foreign minister on TV. What a beautiful beard he had?"

"If I don’t get a good job after my college, I’ll go for Jihad" First boy announced his future planning.

This dialogue was being heard by another boy who was feeling amazement and grief for these supporters of Talibaan regime.

The reason of their support was that they were fed up of the colonial system in their country and they wanted a complete change in a night-turn. Talibaan were a ray of hope for them. They did not actually know Talibaan. They knew them how they were portrayed. One of above-mentioned supporters of Talibaan said at the end of conversation, "After getting a complete control on Afghanistan, they will come to Pakistan to bring Islam."

This kind of support for Talibaan was among two types of people:

Who did not have enough knowledge of Islam, despite they were Muslims
Who were the creators of Talibaan

The word "Talibaan" is the plural of "Talib". "Talib Ilm" or "Talib-e-Ilm" is a phrase used for a student. "Talib" is an abbreviation of "Talib Ilm" or "Talib-e-Ilm". When one says "Talib" or "Talibaan" then it means the student of a fundamentalist religious school (mostly called Madrasah, which is an Arabic word for school).

Talibaan are those refugees of Afghanistan who sought refuge in Pakistan during Soviet-Afghan war. These refugees were trained by fundamentalist religious schools with the aid of USA. At that time, these fundamentalist Muslims, who trained Afghans, were the allies of USA as they were fighting against USSR for American interests. By the end of the war these fundamentalists had enough American weapons to fight against any regular Army. They armed their students with all these weapons and sent them to Afghanistan. These fighters were introduced to the world as "Talibaan". Now that they had power; they had weapons and they had everything which was necessary to reign on a poor and illiterate country, they decided to rule Afghanistan. They had years of training and experience of fighting against a bigger power, USSR. They had no difficulty in capturing about 90% of land of Afghanistan.

As they took control of vast area of Afghanistan, a bigger problem raised. How could they justify their rule? They had no need to justify it to Afghan public. They had to justify it to the people of Muslim countries who could force their governments against the barbaric rule of Talibaan over Afghanistan. To overcome this difficulty, to solve this problem, they decided to cash their religion. They decided to use the card of their fundamentalist religious education. They raised the slogan of "Islamic Law" or Sharia and gained the support of all those Muslims in Islamic countries who were feeling very uneasy with their old, full of corruption political system. In these Islamic countries most of the old-fashioned governments are the "close" allies of USA. It is worth noting that American government did nothing to prevent the Talibaan from getting power although continued to talk against it.

As the time was passing and Talibaan were making their roots deeper and deeper in Afghanistan. They announced themselves the "true Muslims" and declared that their political system was "truly Islamic". This inspired the western media a lot. They exposed Talibaan more and more. Western media showed their people "how the real Islam looked like". They showed the confined women and female children. They showed the strict punishments given by Talibaan according to "Islamic Law". They interviewed Afghan people and told the world how the people were suffering from the oppressions of "Islamic Laws". Talibaan closed down all the facilities of modern world in Afghanistan. They banned TV. They shut down cinemas and theaters. They off-lined internet. They compelled men to have beard according to their law. They obliged men to go to the masjids for prayers.

In short, life had become terribly miserable in Afghanistan. At the same time all of it was being telecast on all the western media. Non-Muslims were being told "how Sharia (Islamic Laws) really looked like". An impression of Islam as an oppressive religion was being built up. An atmosphere of hate and disgust was being developed in West for Islam and Sahria (Islamic Laws). The misery of women in Afghanistan, the warriorness of Talibaan, the aggressive nature of followers of Talibaan, unjustified justice of Talibaan, in short each and every ill aspect of Afghanistan and Talibaan was being projected as "Islam" and "Islamic Laws". When Talibaan destroyed the statues of Buddha, a worldwide uprise emerged against them. People (non-Muslims) began to question about the tolerance for other religions in Islam. People began to think that "there is no tolerance in Islamic system for non-Muslims". Talibaan were forbade from destroying the statutes but they declared in an intoxication of pride that it was an order in Islam.

Talibaan declared that there was no need for modern scientific education to which they referred as "earthly education" which had nothing to do with "hereafter". They felt no need of any education other than religious. Their leaders had two types of education; (i) religious (ii) military. They thought that these two types of education were enough for them to lead a country.

Talibaan gave this world an "Islamic System" which had no tolerance, which was aggressive, which had a big deal of discrimination on the basis of gender, which had inhumane punishments, which was oppressive, which had no respect for modern scientific education and which had nothing to do with the modern age. In addition to that, their so-called "Islamic System" had nothing to with real Islam of my beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Talibaan regime spread the ill fame and bad name for Islam around the globe. They showed that Islam to the world which had nothing to do with that Islam which was brought by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They presented the worstly mutilated form of Islam. Some examples will be worth to explain the reader.

Theft or stealing is not acceptable in Islam in anyway. It has been declared one of the high degree crimes or sins. During Talibaan regime dozens of hands were chopped off in Afghanistan as a punishment of theft. They said that it was an Islamic punishment. I agree. It is a punishment for a thief in Islam. But if one studies Islam deeply, he/she would realize that the way Talibaan implemented this punishment was really, really un-Islamic. Talibaan never searched for any true Islamic evidences of theft. In addition, they never met all the conditions of implementation of the above-mentioned punishment. Their judicial system was very faulty and un-Islamic. Islam has some certain laws about categorizing the act of theft. If somebody steals any eatable good like bread, biscuits or fruit due to hunger and poverty then there is no punishment for such theft other than a warning. If somebody steals something expensive or money due extreme need and inability to gain money legally then there is also no punishment but warning. However, these two exemptions from punishment do not mean that such types of theft are acceptable in Islam. These two exemptions and other such exemptions are provided in regard of the human errors and compulsions. If somebody steals as a profession then this act is eligible for the implementation of the punishment. But Islamic judicial system needs true evidences for convicting the accused. For any act of crime at least two witnesses are needed. There are some further judicial conditions of acceptability of the witnesses but I will not go in that detail for the convenience of the reader. If two acceptable witnesses of the act of crime are presented then the conviction will be done. Otherwise, true evidences will be required for proving the act of crime.

Adultery or sex out of marriage is one of the worst crimes or sins in Islam. According to Talibaan’s law one needs only a belief that somebody is a guilty of adultery. No further process! They would simply announce the punishment and implement it. But Islam describes and demands a complete judicial process to convict somebody with adultery. Islamic Judicial system requires at least four witnesses of adultery in contrary to other crimes. Can somebody act adultery with four witnesses? This implies that the possibility of implementation of punishment of adultery, which is 100 whips for unmarried and death for married, will be very rare.

All of above discussion has concluded for us that Talibaan have never done anything good for Islam. They have always harmed and damaged Islam. They depicted the image of Islam in most mutilated form. They spread the bad name for Islamic laws. They spoiled the reputation of Muslims as peace loving and tolerant community of the world. Talibaan has spread a type hate for Muslims in other communities of the world. They have proved themselves one of the true enemies of Islam. They have injured the soul of Islam.

Now let’s talk about Al-Qaeda. Yes, the same so-called organization which is accused of flying into WTC towers and Pentagon. An Arab rebel Osama bin Laden is said to be the leader of this organization. This man and his organization is among most dangerous organizations of history for Islam. Al-Qaeda has used the burning issues related to the Muslims and has earned lots of benefits and interests.

The roots of Al-Qaeda can be found in USSR-Afghan war. In that war USA was fully supporting Afghanistan by all means. Ironically, it was only and only for its own interests. America did not want any influence of Soviet Union on Middle East and South Asia. America provided not only arms and weapons to the Afghan fighters but also the man power. For this purpose USA had some agents in Muslim world. They persuaded the Muslims against Soviet Union and called them towards a holy war, the Jihad, in Afghanistan. At that time Osama bin Laden was a very active member of America’s CIA. He collected the fighters from Middle East for Afghanistan. He was one of the so-called Mujahideen (holy warriors) of Soviet-Afghan war.

When the Soviet-Afghan war ended in early 1990’s, he somehow developed a new organization called "Al-Qaeda". Who was the actual master mind behind the development of Al-Qaeda; it is a secret. However, its motives are being unveiled by the time and circumstances. Initially there were some little terrorist attacks on different premises related to USA. These little attacks opened the doors to American attacks on a Muslim sovereign state, Sudan. These attacks were for the hunt of Osama bin Laden. But Osama remained safe and sound. Then this wanted man shifted from Sudan to Afghanistan and some Patriot missiles had to land there too in chase of Osama. During this attack Pakistan’s air space was violated and some of the missiles landed also in Pakistan’s deserts due to a technical fault. One missile fell near Dalbandin, Pakistan’s nuclear weapons test site. However, the missile could not explode. If it had hit the exact test site and had exploded, you can imagine the result. Furious amount of radiation had come out and a propaganda campaign against Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program would have started. In this attack on Afghanistan, Osama again escaped. He continued to live in the shelter of Talibaan.

On September 11, 2001, two planes flew into twin towers of WTC and the decision to change the world was made. USA was declared under attack. A situation of war was created in the only Super Power of the world. Osama and his Al-Qaeda was accused for the attacks. By that time, Osama had already become popular among Muslims due to hijacking their burning issues and exposing himself as the cure of their pains and sorrows. He had already begun a war against USA. He named this war as Jihad. As his actions were not Jihad instead they were plainly terrorism acts, therefore, non-Muslims had begun to refer to Jihad as "hostile campaign by Muslims", which is an entirely misleading meaning.

After 9/11 attacks, the word Jihad became an act of eternal sin. All those Muslims were declared terrorists who supported Osama due their religious ignorance. New laws were passed in non-Muslim countries for Muslims. Muslims became the victims of hate. They were attacked and killed. Law enforcement agencies terrorized them in the name of security checking. America bombed Afghanistan so fiercely that even the tracks of small American nukes have been found in Afghanistan. But Osama, the leader of Al-Qaeda and Mullah Omar, the leader of Talibaan are still at large. Now USA is deploying all of its forces in Middle East to attack Iraq. It was 9/11 event that helped America to raise the issue of Iraqi WMD. People say and believe that Iraq doesn’t have any weapons of mass destruction. America is after the oil of Iraq. Questions about Pakistan’s nuclear weapons are being raised if terrorists can get them or not. Some have said to expel the verses about Jihad from Quran. Some have said that Islam cannot exist in Modern Age. America’s INS has created a list of 25 countries whose citizens are required to register (in most humiliating way). 24 out of these 25 countries are Muslims. North Korea is the only non-Muslim country among them. USA is planning to deploy its nukes in Afghanistan. Saudi Arab and Pakistan, the closest allies of America, are being seen with most suspicious eyes. Muslims are feeling themselves insecure in their own countries. At the end of the story, Talibaan and Al-Qaeda still exist in some hidden caves.

All of above discussion implies that if we count and estimate, the results will tell us that Talibaan and Al-Qaeda have harmed Islam and Muslims much more than anything in history. Whenever anybody tries to begin any mission against any Muslim community or group, it is related to Talibaan and Al-Qaeda. These are the tools which have been used to begin a world wide campaign against Muslims.

Nothing has helped non-Muslims against Muslims more than Talibaan and Al-Qaeda.

Talibaan and Al-Qaeda have proved them the true enemies of Islam and Muslims. Are they big and long-term conspiracy against Muslims or what? Who knows?

However, they are not the friends of Islam and Muslims. They are the enemies.
