Bollywood in Propaganda war against Pakistan

by Aashique Chaudhary

Translation of an article from the Daily Jang, February 20, 2002.

From the very beginning of Bollywood there has been an extremist group who have never allowed any opportunity of propaganda to go in vain, Prithvi Raaj Kapoor, K. N. Singh, I. S. Johar, Khwaja Ahmed Abbas and Raama Tand Saagar are on the top of the list in the actors and other prominent personalities of this group. These are the people who presented the decayed ideas of Hindu Dharam and Akhand Bhaarat in their movies and tried to paint these ideas as reality. They produced many movies, which were based on the enmity with Pakistan.

Right after the creation of Pakistan, Prithvi Raaj Kapoor produced a drama, Divaar, in his theater, which continued for many years. This drama educated not only the Indian public but also the anti-Pakistan minds of the Film Industry of Bombay and V. Shanta Raam, Manoj Kumaar and many other film producers of Madras presented Pakistan-Enmity as a movement in their films. In order to portrait Pakistan-Enmity, Manoj Kumaar named his character as "Bhaarat" in every film. Raaj Kapoor continued his father, Prithvi Raaj Kapoor’s anti-Pakistan mission and planned to produce a film "Hina". For achieving his aims, he wanted to cast a Pakistani actress as heroine in this film. He could not materialize this dream in his life, however, after his death, Rashi Kapoor and Randheer Kapoor completed his "mission" by casting Zeba Bakhtiar in "Hina". The extremist leader of Bombay, Bal Thakray also portrayed his extremist views on cinema screen by making his son and daughter-in-law the film producers. Despite of all efforts of keeping the bilateral relations pleasant and peaceful, along with Indian Print and Electronic Media, Film Media of India has also been refueling the enmity for Pakistan under the pressure of their government. Although, India is keeping its seven hundred thousand troops in Occupied Kashmir who have crossed all limits of oppression on Kashmiri freedom fighters and mujahideen, but Indian Film Industry is not behind any other body in mutilating the Kashmir Dispute.

In last some years, which films were produced for achieving such evil aims, they include Pukaar, Border, Hindustan Ki Qasam, Sarfroash, Roja, Bambai, Earth 1947, Train to Pakistan, Hi Raam, Mission Kashmir and Fazaa. A recently released film, Uzar, has the same topic. In all these films, in addition to the negation of ideology of Pakistan, an evil propaganda has been done about the struggle of Kashmiris for independence and the Muslims of India. In all these films, with the help of opposing the creation of Pakistan it has been tried to show that before the creation of Pakistan, Muslims were spending a peaceful life. Therefore, there was no need for Pakistan. In addition to this, Muslims have been portrayed as terrorists and smugglers. In "Pukaar" a character has been used to deliver some very evil dialogues. In this film, very immoral language has been used. These films are used to produce the emotions of hatred in Indian public for Pakistan. For instance, when the film viewers came out of cinema after watching "Border", they raised slogans against Pakistan and Pakistani public.

In "Hindustan Ki Qasam", such impression has been tried to give like all responsibility of violence, at the event of independence, is of Muslims and Pakistan Army does not let the circumstances of both countries to be normal. There is a very evil propaganda in "Uzar" also. In this film, Sani Dayval delivers a dialogue, "Pakistan Bhaarat ki wajjah say qaim hai. Aazadi kay fori ba’ad Bhaarat agar Pakistan ko 65 crore ropay nah dayta to yeh mulk qaim nah reh sakta tha" [Translation: Pakistan exists because of India. Right after independence, if India had not given 650 million rupees to Pakistan, this country (Pakistan) could not exist]. In the same way, in the films about Kashmir, the freedom fighters are shown as the terrorists. There are many movies on Pakistan-enmity, which are under the process of completion at this time also. Indian government also fully supports the makers of such films. An effective policy is needed to be created to compete, with help of films, this evil propaganda and attacks of India. In addition to the making of films about Kashmir and Pak-India relations, Pakistan must boycott all those Indian films, which are based on enmity for Pakistan.

In order to make this boycott effective, the cassettes of all such Indian films must be seized just like as Pakistan has banned Indian TV channels. It must be noticed that the video cassettes of Indian movies are coming to Pakistan with illegal smuggling and these are viewed in every home with out any censor; and in this way our new generation is not only being affected by the evil propaganda but their moral values are also spoiling because of obscenity and nudity which is filmed in these movies.
